Okie Folk and Celtic Music
Straight out of Oklahoma City, Ravens Three is an acoustic trio that performs a wide variety of traditional and nontraditional Celtic and folk music. Their music is inspired by Irish, Scottish, American, and other styles – all blended to create a distinct and contemporary Celtic sound. Two of the current Ravens, Audra Blankenship, and Shawna Kennedy, helped to form the band in early 2013. They happily welcomed multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Jason Hunt and bassist and vocalist Drew Springer in 2020 with open wings - forming the unique, high-energy, table-pounding drive that is “Okie Folkin’” Ravens Three.
Prior to the creation of Ravens Three, Audra played together in the Celtic bands Boru’s Ghost and Beyond the 9. These bands played many shows both near and far from their Oklahoma home and made connections with amazing people along the way. Meanwhile, Shawna played with the local bluegrass band, The Rock Bottom Ramblers, and enjoyed playing a wide variety of venues around Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Texas. When fate finally brought the feathered this group together, the Ravens enjoyed sharing their own styles and techniques in building their new sets. With a combined 90 years of musical experience between them, the Ravens look forward to meeting every week to build new traditional medleys, throw around ideas to incorporate different genres, and even collaborate to write original tunes.
Live performances by Ravens Three have been called “energetic, crowd-pleasing, and fun”. The Ravens aren’t afraid to step out from behind the mics and get the audience involved in their shows and have even been known to teach a simple dance step or two. Ravens Three owes a great deal to its “Conspirators” – meaning the fans, friends, and supporters of the band. The Ravens continue to meet wonderful people on their musical journey and appreciate them more than they could possibly know. They are certainly looking forward to the CAW-some future!
